Visit Grace Church
You are Welcome Here
It can be a bit stressful visiting any place for the first time, especially a church service! At Grace Church, we have become very accustomed to welcoming people from out of town who are just visiting Portland for a few days, people who have never visited our church before, and people who are just checking us out as they explore the Christian faith.
We even have guests who visit just to get an inside look at our beautiful, historic, 110 year-old building!
Directions and Parking
We are in downtown Portland, a (very) mass-transit friendly city. Our church is close to the Portland Streetcar (SW 10th and Clay, SW 11th Clay stops), Trimet Bus (closest stop: ID#1111, SW 12th and Columbia St), and the closest MAX stop is ID #7608, SW Jefferson and 5th Ave, all lines).
Street parking is free until 1pm on Sundays (our worship service usually ends by 11:45am).
There are public bike rental racks across the street from our church, and also rental electric scooters nearby, if that’s your cup of tea! We’re easy to navigate to via Google maps.
Service Times
Our service begins at 10:30am with a welcome, and music. When you arrive, you’ll be handed a worship guide that lays out the order of our service. Restrooms are downstairs.
Children and Families
Kids are very welcome in our services! There is a short children’s program downstairs in the children’s room, but many of our kids remain with their folks upstairs. There is a quiet-room in the back of the sanctuary. We are very comfortable with wiggles and squeaks, and we are very eager for our younger guests to feel welcomed, wanted, and to look forward to coming to church!
What to expect at a Sunday Service
There are no name-tags, address sign-ins, stand-and-greet-your-neighbor, etc. moments in our worship. Not everyone wants to be recognized by a new group, or to sign-up or sign-in to a group they’re just checking out. We get that! However, you will be warmly greeted at the door, and treated with respect and kindness!
After a bit of singing, and prayers, we hear a teaching from the Bible (aka sermon). The teaching will be from a part of the Bible that we are interacting with each week, and lasts for about 35 minutes or so.
Once the teaching/sermon is over, we sing a couple more songs, and then our service is ended. We offer baked treats, coffee, tea, etc., after the service, in a room adjacent to the main sanctuary. This is a good time to get to know a few folks and say hello. It’s a very laid back time: some people stay for a couple of minutes, some stick around for a bit longer.
We hope this addresses any questions you might have about visiting us at Grace Church some Sunday. For more information, please contact one of us via our contact page, or find us on Facebook, “Grace Church Portland Community.” WE HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!
